One really sharp Middie assigned to the 2nd speech for work detail. The first class sent him down to the engine room to get a bucket of steam to clean up the grease on the anchor windlass, and in about 15 minutes, he came back with a steaming bucket and said Bo'sun, here's your steam! He set it on the deck. The Bo'sun couldn't believe it. " Where did you get that?" "What's the matter, Bo'sun? Didn't I bring you enough? YOU ONLY SAID 1 BUCKET, THERE'S PLENTY MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM." The Bo'sun was speechless. Oh by the way, Bo'sun, I figured that you might need a brass magnet so I brought you one, as he pulled it out of his back pocket! Finally after the laughter stopped, the middie poured out the very hot water with a piece of dry ice sizzling on deck. He then he clamped the brass magnet to the windlass, and asked the Bo'sun if he needed anything else? For those of you not in the know, he had come aboard well prepared. There was a real horseshoe magnet inside a brass casing. Needless to say, that Middie got a free ride from the Bo'sun, the rest of the cruise.
